Hi! I’m Sam Adams, a writer and editor for Slate, and a member of the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Society of Film Critics. I’ve been a culture critic and reporter for more than 25 years, writing for places like the Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Dissolve, and many, many others. Before Slate, I was the writer and editor of a blog called Criticwire, and quite a ways before that, the movies editor of the Philadelphia City Paper.

I’ve written about movies, TV, popular music, theater, comics, and probably most forms of culture you can think of for more than 25 years, and that’s mostly what I’ll be doing here, with an emphasis on things that are likely to be overlooked or underplayed in a media environment increasingly focused on handful of buzzy projects. Or at least that’s the plan. You’re here at the beginning of something, in a space I’m trying to feel out before I define it, so come along for the ride, and let’s see where this thing goes.

This is me on a train. I take a lot of trains.

See you soon!
